Free School Meals

FOOD FOR THOUGHT - SUFFOLK SCHOOLS ARE CURRENTLY MISSING OUT ON £5 MILLION - CAN YOU HELP US?

There are around 5,000 young people in Suffolk that are eligible for a free school meal but not currently claiming one.  More than 12,000 children in Suffolk already receive a free school meal and this saves their families £400 per year and also gives additional funding to their school

Did you know that your child is eligible for a free school lunch if your taxable income is less than £16,190 and you are in receipt of certain benefits ? Also if your child is aged between 16 and 19 and claims certain benefits they can apply for free school meals in their own right.

I am sure you will agree what a help this could be, especially if you have recently been made redundant or are temporarily between jobs and out of employment.  However, if you claim what is rightfully yours this could benefit not only your family but the school as well.  The school is awarded additional funds depending on the number of children entitled to free school meals and this extra money will be a real benefit to the school and subsequently to your child.

You will see how easy it is to apply by completing the online application form, using the link at the bottom of the page, if you are unsure whether you would qualify my advice would be to submit your application anyway.  When your completed application is received Suffolk County Council will check your eligibility again the Government’s benefits database.

If you would like help with any of this or don't have access to a computer or smartphone, please call Mrs Boom in the school office or pop in for a chat.

Find out if your child is eligible for free school meals and how to apply.
