Year 10 British Farming Fortnight

Thursday June 2025

British Farming Fortnight in 2025 took  place from June 2nd to June 13th. This LEAF Education connects schools and students with the world of farming and food production through educational resources and activities. The fortnight includes a focus on biodiversity, soil, water, and animal husbandry, with resources available for teachers and educators.

The year 10 students took part in two events. They experienced the whole "farm to fork" process when they visited Kenton Hall farm. They were shown around the beef farm by owner, Emily McVeigh, where they saw regenerative farming practices including using the "mintill" method, agroforestry and crop rotation.

After the tour, the students made an amazing sticky beef stir fry with beef from the farm.

In the second trip, they were joined by some year 9 students and the year 10 modular group in their visit to Hollow Trees Farm and  attended several workshops covering a range of ancillary jobs and industries that are linked to food. They learned about the production of peat free compost, careers and apprenticeships with Klaas, quantity surveying with Clarke and Simpson and producing sourdough bread for an artisan bakery.
